Apart from using our Malaysian flag to match the patriotism theme, I illustrated the Merdeka meaning by incorporating our Malaysian leaders. Without them we won’t be standing here now- we should always remember their contributions to the nation.

What makes you have the idea to accessorize your shoes with bits and pieces of stamp?
“The stamps I utilized have a high sentimental value to me. I used to share this stamp album with my brother while we were young but the pastime discontinued when we were apart. Besides ‘patching’ back the memories I have, I would also want to reminisce the ‘Malaysian Memories’, to always remember who we are, to maintain peace and simply to rekindle the sentimental flashbacks.”

The unique design of yours aroused tremendous curiosity since the competition day. What is the concept?
“Deriving from our Merdeka theme “A Million Smiles”, I aspired to transform my design (shoe) into a ‘smile collector’. The design aims to capture smiles from anyone who gets their first sight at it, thus smiles can be collected and accumulated. I personally think that in a multiracial country like Malaysia, a smile is always the best start for friendliness among all races.”
Having their designs selected by the panel judges and voted by the patrons of Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara, the 3 winners agreeably thought all participants excelled in their artwork. Their advice to other aspiring artists- work hard and don’t ever quit putting your best effort in your passion or interest.
Celebration of A Million Colours
Throughout the whole month of August, patrons at Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara feasted their eyes on 51 pairs of customised shoes, uniquely and creatively designed by young designers in the ‘Celebration of A Million Colours’ shoe customising competition In partnership with Pallas, the competition was organised in conjunction with our nation’s 51st year of independence and Pallas’s 50th anniversary. The shoe customising competition was revived based on the success of Street Life Exposé in 2007 and to celebrate festive events in a creative and fun way, as well as to promote patriotism among the youths.
Upon judging by our panel of judges formed by representatives from Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara, Pallas, local weekly Malaysian Today and local street scenesters, the best 51 pairs were then put on a special display at the Ground Floor’s Walk of Dusk area.
The shoe display captured many shoppers’ attention and aroused their curiousity to participate in voting. A minimum purchase of RM51 on a single receipt entitled them for a voting form to vote for their favourite customised shoes from 4 to 29 August 2008. Upon voting, they were also invited to redeem instant free gifts at the Information Counter.
Voters who selection matches the final top 3 customised shoes results would stand a chance to win fabulous prizes at the end of the promotion period. However in determining the lucky shopper, the mall had to announce bringing forward the prizes to the next year’s competition as there was no exact match submitted. Most shoppers’ selections vary widely and it was obvious that everyone had their very own pair of favourite design.
MyStarz LG Audition Roadshow

MyStarz LG’s second season shoot at Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara, attracted almost 500 eager singers to the two-day audition .The event, organised by TV3 and LG was held at the Lower Ground floor’s Life Circle and Star 2, saw 30 eligible contestants make it through to compete in the preliminaries. Entertaining the crowd with their superb vocals were past year’s winners Tashya, Badri and Mimi as well as celebrities Dina and Amylia Adnan.
Maple Story 3rd Birthday Bash

Maplers and Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara patrons were triple-treated at the Maple Story 3rd Birthday Bash on 9 August 2008, with balloons, games, goodies and surprises creating an unforgettable experience.
 Held on the Ground Floor Concourse area, the event resembled an in-game Flea Market, with colourful decorations and props giving it a real-life gaming experience. Amongst the activities lined-up were Mystery Draws, “Fr33 the Newbie” in-game competition, prize-giving ceremonies and a fun-filled ‘Balloon Drop’ session, with 300 balloons including and 9 specially marked ones dropping from the top floor of the mall. Lucky patrons who managed to grab any of the 9 balloons were entitled to exchange them for great prizes.
The highlight of the day was the MapleStory cake-cutting ceremony. 33 Maplers born on the 3rd, 13th, 23th, 30th and 31st who registered for the “MapleStory Birthday Gals and Guys search” gathered on stage to cut the customized MapleStory cake. More than 3,000 members and patrons showed up for the joyous and entertaining event.
The Dark Knight at the Gotham City Masquerade!

In conjunction with Batman’s return to the silver screens as THE DARK KNIGHT, Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara and AmBank Cards in collaboration with Outpost Events hosted a movie showcase with fun-filled activities with cool prizes up for grabs.
Contestants came to the "Gotham City Masquerade" dressed as characters inspired from The Dark Knight, whether as a henchman of the Joker in extreme make-up, or a vigilante assisting Batman to clean-up the streets of Gotham City. The best dressed contestants walked home with great prizes up for grabs such as a Sony MP3 Player, Puma Watch, thumbdrives, Cathay Starter Packs and exclusive The Dark Knight movie premiums.

Live Pandamonium @ Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara!

The Kung Fu Panda Showcase held 13th to 15th of June 2008 at Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara brought movie fans of all ages together for a weekend of fun and festivities. Held in conjunction with the release of the summer animated blockbuster movie “Kung Fu Panda”, the showcase aimed at bringing movies “A-Live” with interactive and fun activities for all.
The highlight of the showcase was the “Show Your Kung Fu” competition that brought out the inner animals in Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara’s shoppers as they acted out their best animal kungfu moves and poses.
 Besides the contest, the appearance of Po the Panda brought cheer and excitement to the showcase. The second day of the event had crowds eagerly cheering for Po’s appearance, chanting “We want Po!”. During the live appearances, mall shoppers were given the opportunity to take photos with Po.
Visitors to the movie showcase also stood the chance to win prizes by answering trivia questions on the movie. Freebies such as movie passes, stickers, Kung Fu Panda ‘angpows’ and caps were given away.
Floor Combat 2008: This Year, Its War!

Back by popular demand, Floor Combat 2008 brought out the best break dancers (commonly referred to as “Bboys”) from across the nation for the ultimate showdown. Organized once again by Cineleisure Damansara in collaboration with MyPartners, the 3-on-3 B-Boy competition was held over two days at the concourse area of Cineleisure Damansara with the preliminary rounds held on 24 May 2008 and the Grand Finals
on the following day.
The competition saw a total of 23 teams showcasing their sleek footwork skills and creative dance moves on the dance floor, the competition was nothing short of excitement and heart-pumping action as the BBoys from around the region vied for the coveted title of being the Floor Combat 2008 champions. This year’s competition drew participation from many new and younger Bboys around the country and a host of international talents from around the region.

Awarding points to each crew was a panel of internationally renowned guest judges; American dancers Marcus “Epic-phlave” Tucker and Husain representing the famous Philadelphia based “Illadeph Phlave” crew and Williams “Normann” Charlemoine, a French dancer who has had the privilege of choreographing and performing with Madonna in her music videos and live shows and BGirl Smiles, the lone female BGirl judge. The competition was interspersed with short demo dance sessions, with competition judges mingling freely with the competitors and audience, providing a once in a lifetime interaction with these international talents.
After rounds of intense battles, the Rebel In Rhythm crew from Jakarta, with their slick moves and dazzling showmanship was crowned the champs with Radikal Forze from Singapore and local boys Floor Tactics taking second and third place respectively. Bboy Zen from the Floor Fever crew was named Bboy Of The Year after rounds of intense one-on-one battles with the cream of the crop.
American Idol fan wins a trip to the finals in LA!

Fans of the American Idol TV programme were treated to a fun filled day. A giant “Walk of Fame” board game was set up on the concourse area of Cineleisure Damansara. Made to look like a giant board game, contestants competed to finish the game first; taking home the grand prize - a coveted all expense paid trip to watch the American Idol finals live in the USA.
The emcees of the day, Hitz.fm radio DJs Rudi & JJ kept the up with the festivities and entertained the crowd. At the end of the day, Jeremy Matthew Danker beat 10 other contestants to the finish lines, overcoming obstacles and various challenges. A huge American Idol fan, he and a lucky friend will get the chance to experience the American Idol finals in the flesh and get up close with the celebrity judges and contestants from the 19 to the 22nd of May 2008.

Football Fanatics with Fast Thumbs Win Trips to the UK

Fast thumbs and superior football knowledge were on display at the Speedmaster Football Challenge organized by Hitz.fm, Era and Cineleisure Damansara. Contestants not only had to answer football trivia questions correctly on stage, but must submit their answers via their mobile phones by SMS.
The two radio stations also broadcasted live from Cineleisure Damansara’s concourse, giving shoppers a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes during a radio show.

 The biggest new artiste to hail from Korea, FT Island (Five Treasure Island) made their debut appearance recently in Malaysia! The fast rising stars were greeted by screaming fans during their meet-the-fans and autograph session on 29 March at Cineleisure Damansara.
The 2 hour long appearance at 4pm by the band had fans waiting from as early at 11am. Dedicated fans came from as far as Singapore, Thailand and Korea to catch a glimpse of their idols.
Die hard fans also had the chance to redeem an exclusive CD and free movie passes by taking part in a special redemption promotion. Joining in on the fun were also StarRFM cruisers handing out exclusive premiums to Cineleisure Damansara patrons.

CHARM CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008

Creativity, discipline and technical cheerleading skills were put to the test at CHARM Cheerleading Championships 2008 on 23 March 2008 at Cineleisure Damansara. Organised by the Cheerleading Association & Register of Malaysia (CHARM), a total of 17 teams competed in the Cheer Dance division while the Stunt division saw 8 teams pitting their skills against each other.
Coming onboard once again as the official venue and title sponsor was Cineleisure Damansara, with added star factor to this year's event by Celebrity Fitness ambassador Amber Chia and Celebrity Fitness trainer Brancy Teoh, as guest judges. Brimming with enthusiasm and energy was local TV presenter Belinda Chee who was the emcee for the day.
Guest performers were former CHARM All-Stars member, Dennis Yin, who finished second in last year's So You Think You Can Dance? Season 1, and the Rainbows cheerleading squad from Thailand who drew roaring cheers from the crowd with their incredible gravity-defying stunts.
Working the crowd with their sleek dance moves was Extreme Malaysia All Stars who won over the hearts of the judges and crowd to bag the title of the 2008 champions in the Cheer Dance division. Coming in second and third place respectively in the close competition were Minimytez Team A and D*Starz.
In the Stunt category, the Ultimate Cheer Seniors emerged as first place winners, followed by Vibrant Titiwangsa and Star Jump Revels 1 in second and third placings respectively.
This year's event saw the addition of a Best Dressed category, themed "A Perfect Match", where winners Sellors walked away with Ribena goodies.
CHARM CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESS CONFERENCE

The Cheerleading Association & Register of Malaysia (CHARM) teamed up with Cineleisure Damansara again for the CHARM Cheerleading Championships (C3).
The Press Conference highlighted the forthcoming competition, kicking off with a flawless display of dance routines and incredible skills. The CHARM Cheerleading Championships were part of CHARM's efforts to promote cheerleading as a sport in Malaysia with cheerleading being a demanding sport that requires a lot of strength, flexibility, stamina training, discipline and creativity, among other things.
As a run-up to the main event on 23 March, cheerleading road shows were held on weekends prior to the event (March 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16) to raise funds and awareness. Activities that were held included cheerleading performances and games.

Organised by Cosmopolitan, an urban Malay magazine for women, the road show was held in partnership with Perodua ViVa. Featuring a freebies give-away and product sampling, the promotion attracted a large number of shoppers who walked away with cool goodie bags.
Lion Dance

In celebration of Chinese New Year, a lion dance performance was held at various participating outlets. Starting from Cathay Cineplexes, the lion dance troupe made its way around several outlets before finally performing at the mall’s main entrance. The troupe entertained the crowd that gathered at the flea market to catch the performance, much to the delight of children.
 
 
One in a Million Road Show

The Final Four of One in a Million Season 2 crooned their hearts out to adoring fans during the road show held to showcase their talents and highlight the approaching Finale of One in a Million.
Following the success of the highly acclaimed reality talent show, the new season takes the competition a notch higher with four of its strongest competitors yet in the reality show. Shila, Ayu, Sarah and AB wowed the crowd with their solid vocals and drawing cheers during the interaction with the delighted crowd. Fans also got a chance to get up close with their favourite finalists and have their posters autographed.

The inaugural YOUTH‘08: Malaysia’s Youth Lifestyle Showcase was held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in a collaborative effort to bring together youths from all walks of life to engage in trendy, healthy youth programs. Themed ‘We Are The Trendsetters’, the event attracted a huge crowd with its variety of activities organized, including ‘Battle of the Bands’, break dancing competition, graffiti painting, and others.
Aimed at complementing the government’s efforts by providing a platform to inculcate lifelong learning, entrepreneurship and leadership, YOUTH’08 comprised 100 of the most exciting youth activities under one roof catering for a wide span of youth interests, ranging from education, entrepreneurship, charity, entertainment, health, fashion to technology. Not to be left out was Cineleisure Damansara with a cool freebies give-away in fun games. A press conference announcing the first-of-its-kind youth event was held at Cineleisure Damansara on 15 January 2008.
