A host of youth-related activities abound at this rock concert event where film, music and charity come together.
Imagine the sight of nine-year-olds performing Black Sabbath songs outfitted in full heavy metal regalia – this is the setting for ROCK SCHOOL, a documentary film that details the undertaking of the Paul Green School of Rock Music, a unique institution founded in Philadelphia in 1999 that is dedicated to initiating children ages nine through seventeen into the world of rock and roll. By first-time feature documentary filmmaker Don Argott, this engaging music film marks the passion of youths in their relentless pursuit of their dreams.
Taking on the ROCK SCHOOL’s youth-oriented music theme, Cathay-Keris Films mooted the idea for a rock concert to help create buzz amongst the youths and provide a platform to showcase creative young talents such as 3dash1, Audio Break’ Out, Aspirin and the other finalists from the successful Straits Times’ School of Rock competition. The outdoor rock concert event will be held on Friday, 11 November 2005 from 7pm at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard. The world’s best music player, iPod, will also share the stage as music fans can enjoy great music through the various iPod listening stations that will be on site. A silent auction will also be held where bidders can name their price for the much coveted new 30GB Black iPod. The iPod will come with a set of limited edition ROCK SCHOOL movie premiums. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.
At the same time, Cathay will help raise funds for the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund through a $10 donation for every sale of a special ROCK SCHOOL preview movie package and a $0.50 donation for every ticket sale of ROCK SCHOOL screenings.
“We see great synergy in the ROCK SCHOOL’s music and inspirational themes for the youths and the School Pocket Money Fund’s mission. We are really excited to have iPods at the show as they are an indispensable part of every great music event,” said Mr Suhaimi Rafdi, Cathay Organisation’s President of Business Operations.
ROCK SCHOOL will rock the screens from 24 November 2005 onwards at Cathay Cineplex Orchard.
