Cathay Signs MOU with StarHub on E2Max @ Cine-L9

Cathay Organisation Holdings Ltd is pleased to announce its collaboration with StarHub on Cathay’s new entertainment venue E2Max @ Cine-L9, the latest and largest cyber games haven for cyber-gaming enthusiasts.

The partnership, which will be signed today, distinguishes StarHub as the official broadband partner at E2Max @ Cine-L9 which is Cathay’s first foray into the cyber gaming arena.

StarHub is Singapore's second largest info-communication company and the sole operator delivering a full range of information, communications and entertainment services over fixed, cable, mobile and Internet platforms.

StarHub has been actively supporting the online gaming industry locally. Recently, StarHub was the official broadband provider for the world-famous Cyberathlete Professional League World Tour (CPL) competition. The integrated info-comms provider also recently launched its content collaboration programme targeted at online games companies around the world to promote Singapore as the online gaming hub of Southeast Asia.

Located on level 9 of Cathay Cineleisure Orchard - renowned amongst local youths as the de facto hangout destination in the heart of the city - E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub is set to soft open on 19 November and is a one-stop, non-stop, state-of-the-art entertainment venue that is designed to promote a healthy yet competitive cyber gaming environment.

E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub comprises of :

  • Cyber gaming boasting more than 200 PC stations which makes E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub the largest cyber gaming hub in Singapore.
  • Music zone branded by Motorola allowing DJs to spin and play song dedications on weekends. This corner will provide a platform to collaborate with local DJ academies that have aspiring talents who wish to flaunt their flair for mixing.
  • Retail outlets where cyber gamers can acquire the most up-to-date cyber gaming paraphernalia & peripherals, high technology gadgets, equipment and other entertainment-related products & services.
  • A substantial food & beverage menu to help quench hunger pangs and parched throats throughout the day.
  • Three E-cinemas which are electronically enabled to showcase alternative forms of entertainment such as ‘live’ sporting events like the World Cup, EPL and Champions League matches, ‘live’ award ceremonies like the Oscars and Golden Globes and even local entertainment events like the Singapore Idol. With the opening of these three E-Cinemas, Cathay Cineplex Orchard will have 12 screens with 2,135 seats – the largest number of screens under one roof in Singapore.

The arena-style concept of E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub will house more than 200 PCs and console stations including Xbox, as well as Internet surfing services. Seamless clusters of smaller arenas will be designated for different genres of games in varying configurations and levels for single or multi-player gameplay as well as a specially designed Ladies Arena featuring online MMORPGs.

E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub will also feature 20 enclosed private cyber gaming rooms that will offer a full suite of services that include PCs and online games, console games, movie-on-demand on plasma screens as well as food and beverage. In addition to providing a venue for cyber gamers, these private rooms may be used for group study or project discussions.

The genre of games available will include action, strategy, role-playing, racing, sports, adventure and simulation as well as games for the young and the young at heart. With the strong affiliation with the movies, E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub will be the first to acquire movie-themed games and be the launch venue for all movie-related games as well as new games.

For starters, cyber gaming enthusiasts will be amongst the first to experience movie-related games such as King Kong, Tom Yum Goong, Matrix, Chicken Little and DOOM 3, just to name a few. Online games partner, GameAxis will provide their expertise through organising events and connections to the various guilds and clans in Singapore with E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub as the preferred venue.

Cyber gamers will be able to acquire the most up-to-date e-gaming paraphernalia under one roof as micro-retail and promotional spaces for high technology gadgets, cyber games peripherals, equipment and other entertainment-related retail will be available.

Complementing the concept of Entertainment to the Maximum are Cathay Cineplexes’ three cinema halls, which will open at a later date to cater to the growing demand of movie-goers.

With the opening of E2Max @ Cine-L9 Powered by StarHub this 19 November 2005, Cathay Organisation Holdings has also, in the pipeline, identified another two venues for expansion – The Cathay at Handy Road with 90 PC stations by mid 2006, as well as Cineleisure Damansara in Kuala Lumpur by 3rd quarter of 2006 with approximately 120 PC stations.
