Here’s another first for Cathay Cineplexes…a mobile PDA ticketing system. This cuts the queue and shortens the waiting time.
From November, Cathay became the first Cineplex in the region to employ the mobile PDA system. Currently, two units are in place at Cathay Cineplex Orchard Cineleisure to meet the demand expected from the year-end major releases such as Shark Tale, Princess Diaries 2 and Bridget Jones’ Diary 2.
Operating on a Microsoft platform with ticketing system from Vista Solutions, each mobile system is equipped with an LCD tablet which shows movie choices, seating, showtimes, dates and number of tickets for purchase. The system works ‘live’ and concurrently with Cathay’s online internet, box office and kiosks booking systems.
When the queues are heavy, the Cathay crew is deployed to do their rounds with the PDA ticketing system. They go to the customers, moving along the queues to help shorten the waiting time, thus freeing the customers for a cuppa at Cinesnax Café.
The customer makes his or her choice, all of which the staff works on the touch screen. On completion of choices, all the staff has to do is press ‘Print’. The nifty mobile printer, which completes the ensemble, is easily carried around by the staff. Presently, only cash transactions can be made from the Cathay Mobile Tickets Sales.
Vista Solutions, the ticketing solutions arm and subsidiary of Cathay Organisation Holdings will be looking into expanding the capabilities of the mobile ticketing system.
Plans are also underway to equip the Cathay Cineplexes at Causeway Point and in Malaysia where Cathay Cineplexes operate in Johore and Penang with the mobile ticketing systems.
For now, lucky customers who purchase tickets for Princess Diaries 2 from our PDA ticketing staff could win themselves surprise gifts*. So watch out for PDAs and hot pink feather boas!
