THE PICTUREHOUSE MAKES A COMEBACK

The Picturehouse, Singapore’s first art-house cinema synonymous amongst moviegoers with a penchant for thought-provoking films, officially re-launches on 24 th March 2006 after a five-year hiatus. As part of the new eight-screen Cathay Cineplex at The Cathay, The Picturehouse will feature unique film programming in an exclusive, luxury cinematic environment complete with a preview lounge.

Continuing its tradition of cutting-edge cinema, The Picturehouse will celebrate its much-anticipated return with an Opening Film Festival to give audiences a taste of the quality and diversity of films to come. The Picturehouse will screen critically acclaimed films from international directors, offer a variety of film series and festivals that include retrospectives of established filmmakers, showcase on different film genres such as documentaries, and spotlight on cinema from different nationalities. To nurture a genuine film appreciation culture in Singapore, The Picturehouse will also host film-based events such as talks and workshops by local and international filmmakers, and critics.

Patrons will be treated to a luxurious movie-going experience with the added convenience of a box office counter exclusive to them on level 5. Eighty-two plush Oscar Chairs, by designer Italian brand Poltrona Frau, will be fitted to provide ample legroom and comfort. The Picturehouse will feature state-of-the-art technology in film projection and Dolby Digital surround sound for the best sound quality. After a film screening, Picturehouse patrons can proceed to the Lounge through a private entrance, where they can relax over drinks and snacks served at the bar. This exclusive cinema and lounge area is also available for private functions.
